Christmastide is the children's
season. Commemorating the birth
of our Savior and remembering
that He said, “except ye become
as a little child.” and “suffer lit
tle children to come unto me”
it is the time when we allow the
child in us once more to come
to the fore and join our children
and grandchildren in their sim
ple pleasures. Reading aloud from
some book which old and young
enjoy such as the “Wind in the
Willows” by Kenneth Grahame,
forms a common meeting ground
of mirth and gayety for all ages.
This is not a Christmas story
but all who love to labor out of
doors with wind and warm sun
shine in their hair, and all chil-
dren are amused at the adven-
tures of the “Water Rat, the
Mole and Mr. Toad,” and
¡
par-
1 ticularly wealthy Mr. Toad’s
misadventures. The animals are
endowed with human character
istics and you will find yourself
saying, "Isn’t that just like So-
and-So?” There is a wild wood
where the animals fear to go,
for lurking in its shadowy depths
the unknown enemies, and broad
flowing through the story down
which the Water Rat and Mole
swim to unexpected, exciting
new adventures. The lazy river
bank where the animals rest and
look out upon the world, and the
safe, comfortable home of Mr.
Badger remind us of how much
we enjoy returning to our homes
from contact with the outside
world.
Walt Disney has made the
“Wind in the Willows” into a
movie and as “Ichabod and Mr.
Toad” it is coming to our own
