At the end of the fiscal year,
June 30, 1948, Oregon had 13
electric co-operatives of which
Coos-Curry Electric Co-operative
is one, according to annual re
port of the administrator to the
secretary of the U. S. Depart
ment of Agriculture. Since that
time four more have been or
ganized and are either in opera
tion or nearing completion.
Total loans at that time
amounted to $14,181,184, with
funds advanced amounting to $9,-
437,839. Miles of lines energized
amounted to 5,204, with 17,389
consumers connected. The state’s
.percentage of total farm elec
trifications is given in the report
at 95.2 per cent.
This percentage of farms having
electricity is by far higher than
the average throughout the U.
S., according to a survey contain
ed in the report which shows
Oregon as among one of but 11
states of the 48, with 90 per cent
or more of its farms having cen
tral station service. Others in
this above list in addition to Ore
gon are: Washington, California,
Idaho, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio,
New York, New Hampshire, New
Jersey and Massachusetts.
