In The Mail-hex:
May 17, 1949.
Editor, Pilot: 1 beg case to voice
jv o r d of sincere commendation
(tor the splendid work of our
local volunteer lire department.
I will mention two cases
among many that have occurred
under my own personal obser
vation.
One windy day Ira Hull's wood
shed caught fire. In less time
than it lakes to tell it the whole
structure was a mass of oily
flames—the smoke and flames
were driven by the wind and
blanketed the house, so looking
at it from the highway it seemed
as though the residence was al
so doomed.
1 checked the time and 14 min
utes after the siren sounded —
the fire truck passed us on the
way back—t h e fire completely
out witn no damage to the house.
Yesterday, the alarm sounded
again—and before the second
blast of the siren finished, the
engine on the fire truck was
started—and 20 seconds after the
starting, the first sound of the
siren 12 firemen had arrived and
the truck was moving out of the
hall.
We should be proud of this or
ganization and be ready at all
times to help- when they call for
assistance to improve and keep
"beir equipment in order.
Fire is no respecter of persons
and who know’s w’hich one of the
community will need this splen
did service next ?
