Are You Coming To The Festival?
At Azalea State Park, the realm of Oregon’s Azalea land, Sat
urday, May 21, and again Sunday, May 22, southwest Oregon will
again observe the Azalea Festival, which has become, by tradition,
a much anticipated event to everyone. Are you planning to be there?
America is blessed with but few places where azaleas grow wind.
Brookings is one of these places, and Oregon recognizes the fact
to the point where it includes pictures of Azalea State Park in its
advertising folders and literature.
It has come, in the past couple of years, a movement to de-em-
phasize the Azalea Festival because of the lily festival which comes
in .July, and which is believed to be of more value to the country.
Perhaps there is basis for such belief, but, in a land of flowers, it
is difficult to pick out one certain type for exploitation over all
showing will exceed anything of the past big displays.
True, it is difficult to say which flower is most beautiful. Since
this area is blessed with so many different types, it wouldn’t be
amiss to observe festivals tor at least two ot them.
Perhaps it isn’t possible to amass the number of floats to display
azaleas as it will he for a lily parade, but with the natural setting
of the park located here, it should be civic pride and duty to show
off this rare type of flower, seen in so few places.
