The 93-day session of Oregon

accomplishments made. The mud

plans for the next biennium are
as indefinite as a pattern in the
clouds.

It is granted that many prob
lems faced the present legislature
but the solution offered did not
seem to come from men of fore
sight in most cases. Take the vet
erans’ bonus bill which lacked
passage because the legislature
tried to finance the plan through
a cigarette tax—which is in itself
a weak plan.
It was discovered that the in
terim committee failed to per
form what was expected and to
add to the confusion, there was
a poor accounting of the use of
funds by the committee—all of
which was brought to the light
in a manned to promote distrust.
Congress, on the other han^l, is
not setting the world afire with
accomplishments, according to all
reports sent the Pilot by Harris
Ellsworth, fourth district con
gressman, who has labored long
and diligently for the constituents
back home. On top of all this he
is willing to tell how and why
he voted on all measures.
Socialized medicine, the first
wedge of communism, seems to
be tabled, at least, for the mom
ent. Other socialized legislation
is hitting many snags, too, except
the support price given farm com
modities, which in turn raise the
cost of living. Inflated balloons
do have a habit of breaking—
at times when least expected.
Interests clamoring for favors
here and there, create more rea
sons for raising taxes to the lim
it of human ability to pay. Peo
ple lose sight of the fact that the
government the wish of the peo-
pie, and look to the govern men t
to accomplish things the individ-
uals should do.
Correspondents from this area
ho like to have published copy
including
Del Norte Triplicate, do not ad
here to facts closely, and refer
ence is made to a statement by
George Funk, who was piloted in
sold tor as high as 75c each to
greenhouse men.
Mr. b'unk never stated anything
like that. He did tell the cham-
bt r of commerce immediately af-
tt r his return home from his trip
east that some greenhouses had
paid as high as $70 a case
Croft bulbs. There's quite a •iif
ft it net in the pt r-bulb-priee on
that basis.
Editors accepting copy' from a
crew of writers such as these are
only hurting themselves by ac-
ceptance. Mr. Funk has been put
in an embarrassing position by
not like it as he told the meeting
of lily growers last week.
“People should check facts be
fore tlu y make it national news
and should be more careful how
they listen to remarks made,"
he said. "The lily industry has a
chance to arrive at the position
it is due. but such publicity puts
the growers in a bad light."
