funeral Service Are
Being Held Today
for Mrs. H. Nilsen
SMITH RIVER — Mrs. Anna
Nilsen, who has been in ill health
for several years, passed away
at her home here of a heart at
tack. Sunday afternooon. Jan. I
23 at 1:30. Funeral services will
be held Thursday afternoon, at i
2:00 o’clock from Smith River
Methodist church with Rev. E. C. I
Hicks officiating. Interment will j
be in the local cemetery under
direction of Wier Mortuary. The
graveside services will be held1
by Lake Earl Grange.
Born in Norway, July 29, 1881.
Mrs. Nilsen came to America in
1910. settling in Washington. She
was married to Hilmer Nilsen in
1911 at I^Fglois, and moved to
this locality with her family in
1928. where she has since made
her home.
Surviving are her widower.
Hilmer, a daughter. Mrs. Agnes
Davis of Eureka, three sons:
Christian of Lafayette. Calif.,
Harold of Crescent City and An
drew of Smith River, and three
grandchildren. A sister in Nor
way and a brother in Minnesota
are other survivors.
She was active in church affairs,
and was a member of Lake Earl
Grange, taking an active part in
that group until a few years
ago when her health failed.
Snow Blankets Vicinity
A heavy blanket of snow cov
ered the ground and hills Friday
morning, with more falling dur
ing the day to a depth of three
inches. With heavy frosts and
thick ice, and temperatures down
to 22, has frozen over the snow
with plenty remaining in shaded
places. Children of the commun
ity have had fun playing, making
snow men that are still standing
in front yards of homes.
Dairymen Met At Grange Hall
Del Norte dairymen held their I
annual meeting of the association
last Friday at Lake Earl Grange.
Ladies of the Grange served a
luncheon at noon, with 50 dairy-1
men present. Clarence Westbrook 1
presided. Guest speakers were ,
Richard J. Werner, manager of:
California dairy advisory board.1
Douglas Pine and Harry Tucker,
farm advisors for Humboldt and
|Uel Norte counties.
Hickners Return Home
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Buckner'
have returned home from a bus-

they attended the showing of the
