First Service Due In
New Episcopal Church
The new St. Matthews Episco
pal chapel in Gold Beach wil be
ready for its first worship serv
ice on Easter day, March 28,at
the 11:30 a.m. mass. The dedica
tion of the new $2.000 chapel and
community youth center will be
on April 11th at 7:30 p.m., wher.
the Rt. Rev. Benjamin D. Dag-
well, Bishop of Oregon, will be
present for the occasion.
The men working on the
church have about completed the
chapel interior. Quite a bit of
i work .vet is needed, however, on
the side rooms. The interior walls
of the chapel are finished in love
ly redwood. The windows are of
cathedral glass, with beautiful
colored windows in the sanctu
ary. The high window over the

The two side windows in the
sanctuary are of a bluish purple.
The youth center will have a
cement floor under asphalt tile,
and the walls will be painted a
maroon color to the wainscoating
with blue above. The ceiling of
the chapel ami youth center is
an egg white.
The exterior redwood siding
has some work yet to be done on
it before the natural stain will
be added. A large white cross
will be placed on the bell-tower.
As soon as the weather permits

J and gravel will be laid. I he chap
el when finished will be without
question one of the best built and
loveliest church structures from
Eugene to Eureka.
It has been cold in this area
as everyone knows. The residents
of the upper Chetco area report
i that they have had snow up in

gone now.
