COMMENCEMENT PROGRAM

The Azalea Festival is a proj
ect backed by the whole commun-
ity, in which the lead was taken
by the chamber of commerce, in
an effort to combine all efforts
into one unit. It goes w ithout
saying everyone in the town _
no m atter what affiliations, m ust
aid in every way possible dur
ing this event. Certainly the Gar
den Club is doing its rightful
share, and perhaps more.

While out of town over the
week-end to visit my family a t
Dayton, it was my privilege to
talk to quite a number of people
who are interested in this area.
Almost without exception,

the first four or five questions
put to me was: "How about the
schools <,f that vicinity?’’
What are you going to do for
many people who will come to
Brookings for the Festival ? So
many are coming, refusing to
think about housing facilities in
any manner. Therefore, it may
be expected that people will be
going from house to house, look

that I could answer—"They're to
build a new grade school building
— voters gave an overwhelming
assent to such a move.” If my
m tm ory doesn’t fail me, it was
predicted in this column a few
weeks ago that the eyes of the
countiy would be on the decision
of the distrwt, about her schools.
People interested in making a
home fii'st would look about the
schools almost at the same time
they would look into possibilities
ot making a living. It was with
much pride that boasting could
be made in affirmative for these
two questions.
Count was to«f of the numbers
of times the question arose con
cerning the Azalea Festival —

like they used to?”
