letters ple of this country. I will bet you 50 cents on the dollar that you used to believe that Nancy Pelosi represents the 99 per- cent. I will bet you the Brooklyn Bridge that Chuck Schumer takes as much cor- porate money as Mitch McConnell. This is not over. Vote Bernie. Richard Blackstone Creswell VOTE FOR TRIEGER As a health care professional, I am impacted by the COVID-19 crisis every day. Locally and statewide, we have a paid sick time ordinance allowing work- ers to stay home when they are sick, or when a loved one is sick. Laurie Trieger led the fight for that, which has benefited all of us in this crisis. Without this, everyone would continue to drag themselves into work regardless of how they feel or how sick someone is at home in order to keep the job or pay they desperately need. As we see now, this endangers the entire com- munity. In tandem, we see how much employers must pay sick time appropri- ately to keep us all safe. Fortunately, Oregon’s workers have been accumulating sick time benefits since Trieger went to bat for us and won. Many of Oregon’s sick workers were able to stay home early in this epidemic. While we’ll never be able to quantify the effect, we know that this has slowed the spread of the virus. Trieger has led effective campaigns for living wages, healthy food in schools and low-income neighborhoods, and the elimination of predatory lending practic- es by payday loan companies. She cares about kids and working families and has smart ideas and creative strategies to adapt to and combat climate change. Effective leadership at all levels of government is what we need. I encour- age everyone in South Eugene to join me in supporting Trieger for County Com- missioner. Stay home and stay safe! Kendra Northam Eugene Covid Updates at Capella Market We are honored to be your local neighborhood grocery store and I want to thank every shopper for your ongoing support. During these unprecedented times we need to make some changes to our business model to remain viable through the immediate challenges and beyond. These changes are effective immediately: Store hours: 9am to 8pm daily Senior Discount Days: Wednesdays and Sundays After careful consideration, we are modifying our senior discount policy. The senior discount will be offered on Wednesdays and Sundays. As always, this 10% discount applies to shoppers who are 65 and better. We are delighted to honor the senior discount on those two days. This applies to our senior proxy shopping program as well. Senior Shopping Hours: 8am to 9am Wednesdays and Sundays. We are offering our customers who are seniors and those who are at a higher risk, an opportunity to shop during hours reserved especially for them. We respectfully request that customers not in those categories reserve those hours for our most vulnerable neighbors. Social distancing: Please help us practice social distancing. We realize we are a small store with high foot traffic. Please be aware of your fellow shopper and give them 6’ whenever possible. The safety of our customers and staff is our #1 priority as we make the following changes: No Personal containers: We will no longer accept personal containers to be refilled for bulk purchases during this time. No Reusable bags: We will supply new grocery bags at the check stand at no charge for you purchases during this time.
