letters The Shedd Institute www.theshedd.org - 541.434.7000 ing someone out there will haul this shit to a far-away place — maybe Pluto — and dump it down a dark and very deep hole. Why buy this sad product? Because this shit is exclusive to the Republican Party. Some day it might be historical. You might donate it to the Smithsonian, although I doubt they’d take it. Remember: It’s Re- publican shit — it contains only turkey, weasel and rat shit. Highly radioactive. I’m excluding bullshit, however, as that pile is so huge that shipping is impossible. Sorry, I cannot warranty such a prod- uct, knowing just what components went into the messy and unspeakable process of producing it: cynicism, cro- nyism, corporatism, capitalism, narcis- sism, imperialism, greed, stupidity and hypocrisy. There are many others, but I’ve offered this list after a cursory ex- amination revealed only the most visible components. It is an awful thing; I’m not into digging around. So — get it while you can! You, dear reader, can take home a treasure no one could ever admire, much less smell. No bidding up here — it’s going to the lowest bidder, someone with an inability to smell and, certainly, an inability to think. Bidding starts at minus one dollar and goes down. In oth- er words, you’ve already lost… Tom Erwin Salem OK, BLOOMBERG In the mid-morning hours of Febru- ary 11, a homeless woman gave birth on a sidewalk in downtown Salem. In August 2019, in the early morning hours, a garbage truck crushed the skull of a homeless woman while she was asleep in an alleyway in downtown Eugene. This is in stark contrast to the bil- lions being spent on endless election- eering and trillions spent on forever and immoral wars. Consider Michael Bloom- berg, who in his bid to win the Demo- cratic presidential candidacy, garnered 31 delegates, spending roughly $18 mil- lion per delegate earned. America has become poorer in many ways. The governmental structure has not celebrated its citizens; it has not put their needs first. Consider something as functional as a pleasant and dependable Maple Star provides training, certification, and support to care for Oregon’s most vulnerable children. Grassroots, Community-Focused, Responsive, and Trauma Informed. rail system, which exists in most devel- oped and developing countries. A government that celebrates its citizens does not deny them health in- surance, meaningful education and, of course, decent housing. M. Reza Behnam, Ph.D Eugene MISSED THE GOLDEN TICKET In the 1/9/20 Eugene Weekly Let- ters, Rob Handy singled out Executive Director Jacob Fox and Resident Advi- sory Board commissioners Char Reavis and Michelle Thurston with Homes For Good / HUD for pulling a bait and switch by selling the Lombard site to a private developer. He hinted that this was done to line their pockets and increase their power. In 1/16/20, Jacqueline McClure took up the hue and cry that this sell of property was a violation of the original purpose of this land. Both of these people repre- sent the Willamette Greenway. The Willamette Greenway was thought of and implemented from 1966- 85. This is a 75-foot-wide path that would go from Eugene to Portland along the Willamette River for preservation and recreation. It was hoped that the various counties would appropriate the unused and vacant land adjoining the Greenway for this purpose. Eugene did not, and in- stead sold the land in 1998 to HUD/HAS- CA for low income tenant housing. From the time the property was bought until the decision to sell it, there were problems with the land and with continuous lawsuits. The neighborhood wasn’t accepting to have low-income people live near them (“those people”). The Greenway Guardians overstepped their cause outside the pathway to work up the neighborhood and interfere with lawful ownership. The River Road-Lombard neighbor- hood would have had well maintained fed- eral buildings occupied by rigorously vetted low income neighbors (“those people”). All RAB members are voluntary low- income tenants — no pay. Sara Mach Eugene Resident Advisory Board Member Place your legal notices in the Eugene Weekly!
