BEAT DANCE MUSIC
Bay area songwriter and soul singer Quinn Deveaux has his own term
to describe the music he plays: “blue beat dance music.”
“For the soul of humanity,” he says. Quinn and his band come to the
Eugene area behind his latest release, Originals, a collection of dance
songs, he explains. “Tunes you can set on repeat from Saturday night
through Sunday morning.”
Eugene is one of his favorite places to play, and he jokes one day he’ll
find his wife at the Oregon Country Fair “in a homemade skirt and painted
face,” he says. “Who can tell?”
Songwriting is Quinn’s passion. He calls his tunes children who are “all
grown up and shaking their ass. It sounds a bit like ’50s rock and roll and
’70s soul rolled up into one.” But, of course, Deveaux says to really get a
feel for it, just come out and see it live. “I love to sing and play but I love
these songs I play. When folks come out to see us they’ll get a sense of
how much this band loves what we’re doing.”
Quinn Deveaux played Wednesday, July 12, at Sam Bond’s Garage. You
can catch him in a free show 8:30 pm Monday, July 17, at Axe & Fiddle in
