CALENDAR
The Emerald Art Center (500 Main Street in Springfield) is
celebrating its 60th Anniversary on Saturday, June 17. EAC
has been a hub for artistic creativity in Springfield, offering
events like free youth art classes, juried exhibitions and
the Annual Springfield Mayor’s Art Show. For its big 6-0, The
Art Center is holding a full day of events in their gallery.
There will be artist demonstrations throughout the day,
11am-8 pm, for community members to stop in and see
an artist at work. Stop by with your little ones from 1-3 pm.
That’s when the Youth Art Works free weekly children’s art
class will be having a Father’s Day Card themed class for
kids age 6-12. From 1:30-6:15 pm there will be live music
from Jay Dancing Bear, Paul Biondi and Gus Russell and
Sue and Tom Hunnel. The day ends with special recognition
for artists, a champagne toast, food and mingling. The im-
age featured is an art piece by Kyla Corbett called “Rabbit
Friends,” on display at EAC now. All events throughout the
day are FREE. — Meerah Powell
