If you’re in a swingin’ mood despite the frigid weather, head over to the Hi-Fi Lounge
this Friday for some old-style feel-good jazz and bluesy rock, courtesy of Jacob
Miller and the Bridge City Crooners. Miller says, “The music we’ve been writing
lately is very reminiscent of 1960s B-side soul music.” His band plays music
that’s “laid-back, fun and something you’d tap your toes to.” The horn section plays
solos on the fly, so every performance is different, Miller says. The six-member
band feels like something you’d see on a riverboat in the 1930s, complete with
a washboard for percussion, stand-up bass, banjo and a three-part horn section.
Miller says there’s a free swing lesson courtesy of Eugene Swing Association before
the show, and High Step Society opens with old-timey jazz and swing music. “It
can get pretty riled up and turn into a dance party,” Miller says.
See Jacob Miller and the Bridge City Crooners and openers High Step Society Friday,
Jan. 13. Doors open at 8 pm, show starts at 9pm. $10. — Kelly Kenoyer
