Amid the thousands of plants you can purchase this weekend at the Lane County Master
Gardeners Plant Sale and Garden Fair you can find something a vast number of those
plants need: bees. More specifically the folks from Healthy Bees = Healthy Gardens will be
there promoting ways to help bees and other pollinators. Jen and Doug Hornaday suggest
allowing veggies like “broccoli, kale and lettuce go to flower to help finish their life cycle
and go to seed, and help feed the pollinators,” as well as creating pesticide-free spaces
and providing water for bees to drink. Healthy Bees = Healthy Gardens will be featuring
“freshly harvested local healthy spring honey to taste and buy that is helpful for allergies.
They will also be selling native bee houses that were designed and built by Jen Hornaday
along with the 4th graders at the Village School, and “100 percent of the proceeds will go
toward the bee education program.” For more on your local plants and pollinators, put on
your gardening gloves and wander over to the Lane County Fairgrounds this weekend.
