Eugene goes all out for Earth Day. While some cities are satisfied after only
one measly day, April 22, spent giving Earth its due, Eugeneans spread
the holiday out over a whole weekend. Organizers of UO’s Earth Week take
it a step further. And though the geocentric fun is coming to an end this
weekend, the folks behind Earth Week saved some of the best for last: noon
Thursday, April 21, at UO's EMU Amphitheater, check out "A Toxic Love Story,"
a mock wedding ceremony which signifies the UO Foundation’s undying love
for Big Oil. Stick around for climate activism workshops and a solar powered
concert. See uoregon.edu/events for a full rundown of Earth Week activities.
beergarden. (777 W. 6th Ave.) launches its four-day Earth Day fest for
locavores and craft beer enthusiasts Thursday. Also on Thursday, EWEB's
river-themed Earth Day celebration features student artwork and informa-
tion about Oregon watersheds at Cozmic Productions (199 W. 8th Ave.) at
5 pm. The following day, beginning at 6 pm, Cozmic will host a special Earth
Day installment of its monthly Hawaiian culture celebration, Aloha Friday,
where there will be a special presentation, titled “Micronesia Sea Change”,
by Thaston Riklon. The annual Earth Day “Hoo Haa” begins Friday at 3:30 pm
at the Organic Growers Club in Corvallis, where there’ll be free food, music
and a silent auction. Prog-country boys Cowboy Cadillac are scheduled to
perform Saturday at an Earth Day shindig in Cottage Grove’s Coiner Park;
the party goes from 10 am to 4 pm and features kids activities, prize give-
aways and local vendors. BRING’s Earth Day Birthday Party runs 11 am to
4 pm Saturday at BRING Recycling (4446 Franklin Blvd. in Glenwood). After
the parties wind down, head to the Hi-Fi Music Hall, where St. Vinnie’s hosts
Metamorphose Upcycled & Art Auction at 6 pm; proceeds benefit local
recycling initiatives.
