Irvine, California, is sending Eugene a special treat this week:
16-year-old guitar and blues prodigy Ray Goren. Guitar World
has mused whether Goren is the future of guitar, pointing to
his soulful and rollicking cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Machine Gun”
as proof. Then there’s that time he opened for B.B. King when
he was 13. He’s gotten shout-outs from MTV and the Chicago
Tribune who declared that Goren “plays electric guitar — and
sings — with a fluency, ease and depth of expression that defy
easy explanation.” The kid’s got chops, so catch him before
he’s only booking arenas, at the Starlight Lounge March 20 in
downtown Eugene. The cherry on top? The bar just added a
brand-new baby grand piano.
