To the average passerby, Morris Dancing probably looks like an
act of utter lunacy, but to people who understand what they’re
seeing, it’s pretty amazing stuff. A long-standing form of traditional
English dancing, Morris Dancing involves ribbons, jingle bells,
hankies and clacking sticks that get thrown around — in an
impressive, choreographed fashion — all to upbeat fi ddle, pipe or
accordion music. Ask an Englishman about it and he’ll probably
smile and tell you that he grew up watching this sort of thing at
village fetes. It was cool back then, and it still is now, even if it does
look completely bizarre.
Two Rivers Morris, Pearwood Pipers & Mad Robin dance & sing in
the English folk tradition 6pm Friday, Nov. 2 at the Downtown Public
Library.
