Once Juneuary is over and the sun makes its return, getting a
box of Evergreen and eating outside couldn’t be more pleas-
e recommend the garlic naan, mango chutney and
chicken vindaloo.
Avoid leaving the sports scene behind with this sports bar that

AGATE
VILLARD
If you’re inspired by the athletes to walk a little farther, Bates
is just about a mile from Hayward Field, and you’ll need that
bright, sunny walk to burn off a few steak calories. We tried
their fare a couple months ago at Chef’s Night Out — the tri
tip sandwich is magical.

The beer is good, but it’s the pulled pork and fi eld burger

wait, it’s the unbelievable cran-blu green peppercorn
soda — oh heck, we just keep coming back for more.
After a meal or two, the feeling will be mutual.

This young restaurant with a seasonal menu, mostly of
European infl uence with some Americana thrown in,
promises no entrée item more than $20 and drinks, beer
and wine paired with the menu. We’re predicting a long,
successful run.
