TAKE A DUMPLING
And eat it

ometimes, late at night — and hell, even
at brunch time — a hot, steamy, fresh
dumpling really hits the spot.
That was Reid Frumkin’s theory in 2010
when he and his friends evolved some poop
jokes into Dump City Dumplings, a suc-
cessful Bend eatery. They opened a Eugene cart earlier this year.
Whether people think it’s funny “depends on the person,”
Frumkin says, but even those who don’t share the lighthearted
philosophy can appreciate a delectable dumpling.
“Essentially, it’s kind of a Chinese version of a sandwich
with dough on the outside and ingredients on the inside,”
Frumkin says, and Dump City keeps the flavors spinning like a
globe: Pad Thai, four-cheese pizza and Chinese-style pork are
always on the menu, but a fourth flavor rotates among options
like chicken alfredo, beef broccoli and sweet curried ostrich.
With their Eugene addition, Frumkin says they’ve still pri-
oritized keeping ingredients fresh. “We source almost every-
thing locally and organically,” Frumkin says. “About 90 per-
cent of our produce comes from Junction City.”
Of all the flavors we have sampled at Dump City, not a one
has steered us wrong. Each dumpling, plumped to perfection,
delivers the most amazing flavors that fresh, local ingredients
can bring.
The standard Chinese-style pork dumpling, however, is epic.
This is traditional Chinese food at its best. All of the flavors
from the pork to the veggies on down to their housemade teri-
yaki sauce — to be artfully injected into your bun — blend to
deliver the most perfect meal, be it a lunch on the go or a little
something to stumble home with after hitting the bar. ■
