Agricultural activism and live theater share a noteworthy
celebrity in playwright, director and activist Luis Valdez.
Founder of the prestigious El Teatro Campesino, Valdez
merges his artistic talent with the passion for Chicano
rights that led him to mobilize with Cesar Chavez and the
United Farm Workers. Valdez’s fi lm and television projects
involve prominent entertainers like Lou Diamond Phillips,
Jimmy Smits, Chich Marin and Linda Rondstat. In 1979, he
became the fi rst Chicano director to have a play presented
on Broadway. Saturday he will speak at Oak Hill School, and
students will present his short play Los Vendidos. Seating is
fi rst come, fi rst served, and the play will open the program.
