MeNomena
NO AGE
9:30pm :: Indie Rock
8:00pm :: Garage Rock
Menomena is an indie rock band from Portland made up of Brent Knopf on
guitar, keyboards, glockenspiel; Justin Harris on bass, guitar, baritone and
alto sax; and Danny Seim on percussion. Members of the band share singing
duties. Their third recording Friend and Foe shines NW indie songcraft through
a Chicago post-rock lens, illuminating the quiet recesses with an unpredictable,
experimental light.
No Age consists of guitarist Randy Randall and drummer Dean Allen Spunt.
They take their name from the title of a 1987 SST Records instrumental
compilation, which Spunt discovered while working at Aron’s, a record store in
Los Angeles. Their strong ties with the Los Angeles underground community
centered around their DIY ethic is a throwback to the 1980’s strong hardcore
and punk underground, and, indeed, that inspiration shines through on much of
their music.
The Daveys
Tu Fawning
5:15pm :: Indie Rock
Meeting at the University of Oregon, this local trio is very much a part of the
Eugene DIY scene. Their sound could be described as a mixture of Folk Punk,
Garage Rock, and Doo-Wop. The band is comprised of singer and guitarist
Max Bien-Kahn, who leads the band with crunchy guitar rifts and unique
vocal stylings. He is backed by the hard hitting rhythms of drummer Patrick
Mac-Kenzie and the melodic thumpings of bassist Sam Alexander.
2:30pm :: Contemporary Folk
Tu Fawning is a duo from Portland who have both been fi xtures in the local
music scene for many years. 31Knots frontman Joe Haege and longtime indie
chanteuse Corrina Repp have created a sound with evocative vocals that
twirl through restrained riffs and piano fi gures in a chamber rock sound. They
released an EP last summer on Polyvinyl records, and the vinyl on Discourage.
They also added two new members, Liza Rietz and Toussaint Perrault.
