BEST OF EUGENE 2004
BEST MALE MUSICIAN:
SCOTTY PEREY
2nd: Andy Larson
3rd: Brian Cutean
Scotty Perey, keyboardist for The Sugar
Beets, takes this category. Slammin’ keys
for one of Eugene’s hottest, most danceable
pop/rock bands, Perey took first place over
Andy Larson by a razor-thin margin of only
one vote. Shazam! Stand up and take a
bow, but don’t miss a beat.
BEST BAND: THE SUGAR BEETS
2nd: Toad In The Hole
3rd: The Ovulators
EW talked to Marty Chilla (vocals and
acoustic guitar)
Do you really think you deserve to win?
What kind of a question is that? I would
say, we’re honored to be recognized and
appreciated by our community, but funda-
mentally what makes music such a beauti-
ful thing is that it dissolves barriers and
hierarchies between people. What’s the
strangest thing you’ve ever worn on stage?
Scotty wore a three-piece tin foil suit at the
Country Fair. Do people ever throw things
on stage at you? Yeah, we’ve got a song
called “Naked” and we have people throw
their clothes on stage before. We actually
have a lost and found box. What was your
worst stage disaster? We couldn’t turn the
fog machine off.
BEST HAIRDRESSER: RUSS AT
GERVAIS AND CINDIA CARRERE

EW talked to Russ Revis
Do you think you really deserve to win?
Yes. Well I think I do some amazing work. I
just came back from London, and I was able
to create new visions and ideas. I just did an
amazing hair cut and color that I’ve never
seen done before. She works at the front
desk and stands out and I think she has the
best haircut in this town. I have wonderful
clients, and I never do anything the same.
I’m really an artist. It’s always a fresh
palate. I’m fortunate to work in a place
where I can be as creative as I like. What’s
your worst hair disaster? A woman had
been a client for a long time and her hair got
burned with a perm. There was nothing we
could do but cut it really short. Oh, she came
back every week to reconstruct her hair
from being over processed, and then she
never came back again. That was a long
time ago.

EW searched and searched
for Cindia Carrere but
couldn’t track her down
despite leaving messages
on her home phone. We
can only assume she’s out
of town right now.

Do you think you really
deserve to win? Boy
that’s a question. I … I …
That is a question. I sup-
pose overall yes. I come
to work and I try to do …
I try to give 100 percent
every day to each cus-
tomer. I try to treat them
how I would like to be
treated every day, no mat-
ter what’s going on in my
personal life.
