The Cascadia Wildlands Project’s Second Annual Hoe-down for the Ancient Forests at Avalon Stables in Cottage Grove is bound
to be a heavy party. Bill Martin will call square dancing to music by the Foghorn String Band, and food and drink will be provided.
Shuttle service is available. CWP is a Eugene-based nonprofit dedicated to defending the forests, waters and wildlife of Cascadia.
The organization monitors environmentally destructive activities and educates, organizes and agitates for a more compassionate
and responsible relationship with Cascadia bioregion ecosystems. See Friday Calendar.

UO. At 12:15 pm Eugeneans bring their
loud voices and passion for justice,
their outrage and sense of humor to
the Federal Building at 7th Avenue and
Pearl Street. Participants will be able
to sign a letter to Sen. Gordon Smith,
asking him to join with Sen. Ron Wyden
to change the USA PATRIOT Act. See

published in the 2003 anthology,
Raising Our Voices, will read in the
UO’s EMU Fir Room. The anthology
features 135 Oregon poets and citi-
zens who registered their protests
against the U.S. invasion of Iraq on
