Drain Chamber of Commerce Updates
Story by Rusty Savage
The Drain Chamber of Commerce
connues to work for the beerment
and beauficaon of the town. At
the May 19th Chamber meeng,
members addressed
a number
of potenal acvies and events
that will be of interest to everyone.
The first item to note, is the
Victorian Garden Tea Tour beginning
at Ame Beard’s, 105 W 1st Ave in
Drain on July 7th. With a theme of
vintage Mad Haer Tea, the tour will
feature Passports of each stop with
door prises at the end. Wear your
party clothes - costume contest. From
2pm to 5 pm, enjoy live music, tea,
hors devours, art and lovely gardens.
The Saturday Market at Rays parking
lot is now commencing for the summer
and is bringing some local interest.
The Chamber discussed several
opons for creang events or regular
acvites to direct visitors around
town, from businesses to points of
interest. Possibly by way of making
maps or even postcards available
around town or locaons out of
town, Sponsors and adversers would
help with prinng and distribuon.
At last, plans for the Drain
City Wide Yard Sale has finally come
together and it is on for August 10th
2024. Look for details in the July issue
of the Herald and all the local noces.
A couple of final topics that
are very creave and deserving of
some planning and input. First, I know
you have all seen the ugly boulder
laden curb endings that DOT installed
earlier this year. One idea was to paint
them or possibly have some contests
or sponsorships to do colorful effects,
scenes or even abstract art, reflecng
Drain’s personality and history. Outdoor
themes or logging or agricultural
influences. Let’s get some folks on board
with this fantasc idea. I see streams
and turtles, fish trees and wildlife, wow.
Not a part of the Chambers agenda,
but I know that Bonnie Pyles supports a
the noon that, the corner lot between
Exclusively Bridal and Napa auto parts
would be a perfect locaon for a town
landmark of a Colorful, Drain themed,
structure with a lighted Fountain. With
the curve of HWY 38 winding past, it
would be a statement that resonates
the sparkling personality of our city.
The Chamber of Commerce is
an important voice in our community as
all of our cizen groups are. The next
meeng is June 16th at 6:00 pm at
Exclusively Bridal,101 E. “B” Ave. If you
want to get acve and be part of a great
effort, maybe you should stop by.

4 Way Stop coming for Drain Intersection
More construction for HWYs 99 & 38
Story by Rusty Savage
It was in April that the DOT approached the
Drain city governent to weigh in on their impending
acons regarding the stop signs at the intersecon
of HWYs 99 and 38. It has been a 3 way stop
for a very long me with no stop for west boun
HWY 38. Their choice for the city council was a
tesng period of opons that DOT offered. First
was for only a 2 way stop on north bound 99 and
south out of Dolar General, leaving 38 east and
westbound with no stopping. I think it’s a general
concensus of the town that that is a very bad idea.
DOT made it clear that the present configuraon
of a 3 way stop is not going to stay, it’s going to be
changed, they have all kinds of reasons. So the only
other opon was turning the intersecon into a 4
way stop, all sides. Being as that’s the only 2 opons,
there was only 1 reasonable choice, a 4 way stop.
Since that was the obvious choice, there seemed
no need to do it so much as a test but to go ahead
and vote to make the intersecon a 4 way stop and
it was unanimous. So, because of DOT rules, the
turn lanes will be taken out, the crosswalks will be
altered and 4 stop signs installed. It was reported
at the May Council meeng that the work should
start by summer. Well, it is June so watch out for
the coming construcon mess, hopefully they’ll get
right this me.
