Board considers Doctors Invent
‘Lazy Way’ to
Sandy downtown Lose Weight
K im berly NeLson, chairwoman of
the E’lanning Commission, told the
C ity Council Monday that the firs t
meeting to discuss plans to revitalize
downtown Sandy was a success
NeLson said four committees have
been formed to address concerns
They are the appearance committee,
the image com m ittee, the fillin g
empty buildings committee and the
find a hotel committee
The appearance committee w ill ad­
dress such issues as landscaping and
dressing up downtown. Nelson said,
while the image comm ittee w ill ad-
dress the issue of the reputation of
Sandy and its core business d istrict.
Thé Planning Commission is also
considering setting up an enterprise
zone, which would have to be approv­
ed by the state An enterprise zone
would allow business owners to make
im provem ents w ith money they
would norm ally pay out in taxes
Urban renewal, where taxpayers
vote to make improvements such as
occurred in Seaside several years
ago, has also tx-en discussed, as has
the need for low interest rate financ­
ing for entrepreneurs
