snou was just perfect lor a long trek across
the mountainside Alter a quick breakfast,
a long lecture from Ins mom and d.wl. and
a kiss on the cheek, he was olt to have
tun
Kevin whistled lor Woll Woll was
Kev in's ik>g. who vvi>ukln I let anyone near
Kev in I veil Kev in’s dad. K ick. w ho was
a Iui trapper and a sled dog racer made
Woll bare his teeth Woll was known lor
his lightning quick reflexes, and every oik
in the valley was afraid ol him As soon
as Kevin whistled again. Woll came
bounding (>ul ol the woods e a rn mg a hall
eaten rabbit ilcquickly I unshed the rabbit
oil and ran Io Kevin's side
Ihev were o il. Kevin sliding with grace
and skill and Woll trailing behind him
Kevin’s dad watched until they were out
ol sight and then went in lot a second cup

About three lit nits later. Kevin stopped
to eat his lunch He found a nice sunny
place Io sit on top ol a n e k and look out
the lunch his mom had made He quickly
finished oil two tuikey sandw idles and
stalled Io bteak another o ik into chunks

T hen. out o f the com er ol his eye. he
s,rotted three shadows reflecting on the
snow He sw ti led around to see three hall
starved wolves Ihev advanced toward
him Kev in threw his sandwich aw ay trom
the rock. hoping the wolves would go
alter it He prayed lor Woll to com e to his
rescue l i e wolves moved toward the
sandwich O il to the right. Kev in noticed
Woll sneaking up on the other animals
Woll gave a low gn>wl and crouched
into a lighting jiosition
Kevin did the lust thing that pipped
m lo liislie.n l He screamed Hearing his
m aster's veil. Wolf ’s glow I tutned into a
halt raising snail that made the wolves
stop in their tracks Two veered oil to the
side, leav ing the thud and stiungesl woll
to meet the dog head on I hen the two
other wolves cite led in behind Woll \ll at
once, they attacked Hut they didn't expect
the lightning quick speed ol Woll vs soon
as the wolves got close enough to attack.
Wolt leaped at the strongest one and up
|Kcl his ihioat with ra/or sharp teeth
Swinging around on Ins powerful hind
legs, he landed on the other two wolves
w ith sueh force and s|K*ed that they dnlti t
have a chance to open their mouths to l ight
back
Kev in stood astonished When it was
all over. Woll came to Inin and Inked his
hand I hen he turned to linish the turkey
sandwich Kevin pulled himsell logethei
and gave Woll a hug
I le didn't want to leave the carcasses o,
the wolves behind He knew they were
worth uionev I uckily. Ins parents had also

parents had stalled to worry so Ins lather
decided Io meet him on the trail W hen he
heard about Kevin's adventure, his lathei
decided that Kevin had proved he was
mature enough Io learn how to slnxM a
idle He said that Kev in had handled him
sell well in his trouble with the wolves
Kevin tell verv proud that his lather had
such conlidence and trust in Inm
I he next day they look the pells into
lairbanks and outlined Kevin with a new
idle Ihe remainder ol the money went
into a sav ings account lor college I o this
day, Kevin has not lorgotten the allernoon
that Woll saved his Ide. and Ihe trust he
received from his lathei
