Woman to participate in pageant
Two scholarship pageants are on tap
this weekend for Sandy and East
County area residents
At 8 p m Friday, six young women
w ill compete for the titles of Miss
Multnomah County and Miss Metro
East The pageant w ill be held in the
David Douglas High School Perform­
ing Arts Center. 1500 S.E 130th Ave.
On Saturday, also at 8 p m. in the
Performing Arts Center, the Miss
Mt Hood Area Scholarship Pageant
w ill decide the winner from six young
women vying for the Miss Mount
Hood area and Miss Clackamas
County crown.
Tickets for each event ate >5 in ad­
vance and $6 at the door.
Both scholarship pageants are a f­
filia te d w ith the Miss Oregon
Pageant — and, therefore, the Miss
America event.
In October, young women 16-26
years of age apply to enter the con­
tests. E n try is open through Jan 1,
after which the competition begins

Gunderson said the exact scholar­
ship awards have not yet been an­
nounced
The contestants have been rehears­
ing for this weekend's pageants for
four months, she said.
Once a week they receive lessons in
how to sit, stand, walk and talk and
build confidence and poise. Gunder­
son said.
In addition, experts in the areas of
make-up, hair styling, wardrobe
selection, fundamentals of grooming,
posture and color analysis make
presentations to the pageant can­
didates.
Candidates for the Miss Mt. Hood
Area and Miss Clackamas County
pageants include Lori Lagasse. 20, a
1983 graduate of Sandy High School
who plans to attend MHCC m ajoring
in performance and broadcasting.

Funeral services for Donald Kay
Conn were held June 10 at Sandy
Funeral Home Burial followed at
Cliffside Cemetery
Mr. Conn died at his home in Sandy
on June 6 He was 31 years bid
He was born in Portland on Aug 10,
1953 His has lived in the area all of
his life, and attended the Sandy
public schools
Outdoor hobbies and sports were
among his favorite activities He also
enjoyed hunting, fishing and swimm
ing
Mr. Conn is survived by his
parents, Louis and Juanita Conn of
Sandy; two brothers, Butch of Sandy
and Richard of Portland; two sisters,
Dianna Buchanana of Hermiston and
Lilia Hawn of Sandy; his grand­
mother, M ertl Conn of Beaverton
Lauderback
Leonard Reed lauderback, 94,
lifelong resident of the Gresham-
Orient area, died June 4 at his home
M r Lauderback's funeral was F ri­
day. He was buried at Douglass
Cemetery Bateman Funeral Chapel
was in charge of the arrangements
Mr lauderback was born in Orient
on Jan 29, 1891 the son of John and
Frances lauderback He was raised
and educated in the Orient area and
attended Orient grade school. He
later studied at Behnke-Walker
Business College in Portland
On May 24, 1922 he m arried Vada
Charlie Terrill
Funeral services for Lebanon resi­
dent Charlie C. T e rrill were held
Saturday, June 8 at the Sandy
Funeral Home Vault interm ent
followed at Forest Lawn Memorial
Park in Gresham
M r T e rrill died at his home on
June 5 after a lengthy illness He was
86
He was born Sept 16,1898 in Payne
County, Okla. In his youth, he moved
to Texas where he began doing farm
work with his fa th e r lie later worked
as a cook for the railroad
In 1918, Mr T e rrill homesteaded in
Colorado.
On Oct 20, 1920 he married Mabel
Pearl Holy bee in Colorado They
farmed until 1943 when they opened a
hunting and fishing lodge at Disap­
pointment Valley in Colorado, where
they worked for 30 years
Upon retirem ent, they moved to
Oregon to make their permanent
home in Lebanon where M r T e rrill
built their home He enjoyed working
outdoors and gardening
He is survived by his wife, Pearl

Earl McCarty
Funeral service for E. Earl McCar­
ty, 64, of Boring, was held June 5 at
the Bateman Funeral Chapel
M r McCarty was bom in Gilliam
County, Oregon, the son of E lijah and
Alice W illiams McCarty He was
born Aug 18, 1920 and died June 1 at
his residence
He was raised in Eastern Oregon
and had farmed and been employed
in construction for 23 years in the
Condon area He eventually moved to
the East County area where he own­
ed and operated the TippyCanoe
Restaurant and Lounge on the Sandy
River for 16 years until his retire­
ment in 1979.
M r. McCarty was a member of the
Gresham Elks and a veteran of
World War II On June 17, 1970 Mr
McCarty married Dorothy A. Stein-
man in Sandy.

Funeral services for Sandy resi­
dent Loretta Gohl w ill be held F r i­
day, June 14 at 1:30 p.m. in the
chapel of Sandy Funeral Home.
Vault interment w ill follow at C liff­
side Cemetery.
Mrs. Gohl died at her home on June
10 at the age of 58
Evangelistic Service
She was born on May 28,1927 in Hot
Springs, South Dakota. After grow­
ing up in Post Falls, Idaho, she lived
in Spokane until moving to Portland
in the late 1950s.
On December 18,1964 she was m ar­
ried to M Robert Gohl. They lived in
Portland where Loretta helped with
the office work in her husband's
building construction business
In 1927, they moved to Lake
Havasu. Ariz. Since 1981, they have
enjoyed spending the summers in the
Sandy area.
Mrs. Gohl is survived by her hus­
band, Robert; children: Kenneth
Bourlier of Arizona, D arryl Gohl of
Sandy, B rian Gohl of F lo rid a ,
Carolyn Finch of Gresham and
Luana Osterday of California, three
brothers: L arry Tryon of Waldport,
and A rthur and Robert Tyron, both of
