Stein had two main motives for
w riting his book
"The story needed telling because
the general public has a very
distorted idea about helicopters.”
He also felt a need to put the
helicopter in perspective in regards
to safety. Throughout the book he
doesn’t avoid the subject, but at
tempts to put it in perspective — “ the
fact that helicopters have accidents
like any other vehicle.”
“ A u to r o ta tio n

He is earnest about the message It
is not a book merely dealing with the

"T h e helicopter embodies the
earliest dreams of powered flight,
yet it evolved slowly.
"Because its wings are free,
nothing flies so free as a helicopter —
anywhere. And nothing lifts like a
helicopter,” the book reads.
“ I ’ve had people tell me they had
no interest in helicopters — I know
that’s not true,” Stein said “ They
just don’t know what their talking
about.”
