beautiful places in the country.
Whether you're planning to stay
for a week or just a day, start your
trip before dawn. A quick donut
stop and a 1 /2 hour drive from
Portland on Highway 84E takes
you to the Colum bia River Scenic
Highway and the beginning of a
great day.
Shift into slow gear as you leave
the freeway behind to wind along
the narrow two lane road that hugs
the side o f the Gorge. You can
almost imagine Model T Fords

highway opened in 1915.
Vista House at Crown Point is the
perfect spot to stop and watch the
sky lighten as the sun rises over the
Gorge. From this lookout high
above the river you can see
Vancouver and the west entrance
of the Gorge.
