Dale Nicholls of Sandy as
its 1983 Realtor of the Year
Nicholls is broker-owner
of Pioneer Real Estate in
Sandy ana serves as a state
director, representing the
Clackamas County Board
of the Oregon Association
of Realtors. He has also
served the local board as

of

committees, as well as a
local director
During the late 1950s. he
served as president of the
Palm dale, C alif , Board of
Realtors, as a director of
the California Association
of Realtors in 1964 and as
Realtor of the Y ea r in 1965
The business is, however,
a seco n d c a r e e r fo r
Nicholls.
His first was more color­
ful and more glamorous
During the 1940s and 1950s
he was a regular member
of big bands of the jazz
music era, before he even
dreamed of a real estate
career
He m a rrie d a fellow

in 1935 They have gathered
around them a fam ily of

and

daughters They also have
13 grandchildren
In the 1940s, after moving
west, he played trombone
accompanying Dean M a r­
tin and Jerry Lewis on a
tour of the country In 1949
he joined the Desi Am az
b an d , p la y in g a t the
B iltm o re Hotel in Los
Angeles, eventually w ork­
ing eight years at DesiLu
Studios He appeared in
more than 250 episodes of
“ I Love Lucy.”
J u d y G a r la n d once
draped her legs over his
shoulders w hile singing
“ S om ew here O v e r the
Rainbow.”
Today, he combines two
careers as a real estate
professional and an enter­
tainer by making contribu­
tions to civic and communi­
ty life. He was president of
the Sandy Cham ber of
Com m erce in 1970 and
president of Sandy Kiwanis
from 1972-73.
Nicholls also organizes
the annual July 4 fireworks
show for Sandy Civic Ser­
vices and organizes music
for the annual Sandy Moun­
tain Festival.
In 1975 he was named
Citizen of the Y ea r by the
Sandy Area Chamber of
Commerce.
