Though Anne Sarich won the
giant slalom, she had trouble in the
slalom. She said, “ I fell the second
run. I hooked a tip and had to
hike.”
Sue Sarich perhaps summed it
up best for the entire team. “ We
try to help each other more than
anything. We all want to do well
together. W e’d all just as soon tie
for firs t.”

Baksetball Tournament, 71-70.
It was the closest game, with

own scoring record (87 points in
1981) with 102 points in three
games. He had the most three-
pointers in one game, with five,

classes of ’67-70 won with 13 points

The boys basketball team had a
crazy week in February of 1982
They downed Sweet Home 56-55 in
two overtimes on a Friday night,
and then fell to Oregon City 53-47 in
four overtimes the following Tues
day Mitch Paola scored 28 points
in the two games
Meanwhile the SUHS girls ski
team was on a roll. They won the
Valley League by a whopping 25
seconds, a margin of victory
almost unheard of The top six
skiers for the Pioneers all finished
in the top 11 overall. “T h a t’s all
six, boom, boom, boom T h a t’s
really nice,” said Coach Robert
Karsten “ I giggled. I loved it."
Gayle Roth finished second at
the state swim meet in the 50 free,
and was sixth in the 100 free The
boys 200 IM team finished ninth.
O verall, the girls were 14th out of
42 teams at the state swim meet
The boys were 26th out of 40 teams
The girls swim team had a 6-1
dual-meet record, the boys were
5-2.
It was billed as the toughest
district tournament in the state,
but seven Sandy wrestlers got
through it as the Pioneers took
third.

17 points, nine rebounds and six

year starter also owns a school
record with a game-high 32 points
In early March the Pioneers
wrestlers took sixth at the AAA
state tournament Sytsma had to

Kearney earned a 31-0 record,
and later won the freestyle and
grecn-Rotnan titles

freshman, and senior Patty Gray,

led the team in batting with a .317
average She also had an 860
fielding average.

w ill,” said Coach G ary Curtis.
When Scott Skipper throws the
javelin he lets out a clear, concise
scream. And does that scream
help? “ Oh yeah," Skipper told The
Post. " I t scares it out there
another 20 feet. T h a t’s what this
one lady said.”

track meet was Gayle Roth. She
set school and district records with

ing golf with his brothers when he
hit a hole-in-one on the 155-yard
hole 10 at Mountain View. “They

Bob Nippert scored 15 points in
two games as the State All-Stars
downed the Metro team, once in
Portland and once in Eugene.

State Finals Rodeo in Redmond.
She was the reserve champion the
year before
Rasmussen, and her horse D rib
ble Chick, took a perfect 30 score
into the State Finals Rodeo. She
also served as cutting horse direc
tor, an honor voted upon by her
fellow competitors.
Also in mid-summer, Skipper
broke his javelin record again.
This tim e it was with a toes of 218-7
in the Oregon Junior Olympics.
Clackamas County Bank earned
a 15-0 record and the district title
with a 9-6 win over the Sandy Red
Hots in July in Junior Ponytail
softball.
The next weekend both Sandy
teams made Sandy sports fans pro
ud. CCB, coached by Rex Brittle,
won the state 912 girls softball ti
tle. The Red Hots, coached by
Cheryl Schwartz, were third Said
