difficulty paying their bills.
Under the PG E program,
a deposit of one month's
b ill is re q u ire d fro m
customers who have less
than six months credit
history and do not pass a
credit screen. In addition, a
one month deposit is asked
of customers who have had
two to four disconnect
notices and one or two field
calls by company person
nel in the past six to 12
months
Deposits of two months
average bill are only asked
of customers who have ex
t r e m e ly
poor
c r e d it
histories with PG E. This
includes a disconnect for
non-payment during the
past y e a r; failure to pay at
a prior address, or the use
of false information to ob
tain a previous exemption
from making a deposit
As an alternative to m ak
ing a deposit, a letter of
guarantee can be submit
ted by a third party who is
a PG E customer with good
credit standing.
An important part of the
policy is the involvement of
social service agencies
With agency referral and
