You say the family budget's
so strained you can hardly af
ford a trip to the grocery, let
alone a real vacation? You
might be surprised at the travel
you could afford with a fo ld
down camper
Today there are campers so
lightweight they can he towed
by subcompact cars, campers
so inexpensive that, with con
ventional financing, you can
have one for $58 a month
Now. imagine yourself on
the road Time to eat ’ Drive
past that restaurant to a scenic
roadside area Most campers
have built-in ice boxes and
ranges, so you can fix a tasty
meal fast — and cheap No
more expensive than eating at
home, hut a lot more fun.
Bedtime'.’ Forget about mo
tel reservations and room rates
A lovely campsite w ill cos,
you jus, a few dollars rental,
and you’ll have the pleasure of
sleeping under the stars as well
as m eeting other cam ping
families
The economics of traveling
with car and camper were sub
stantiated recently during a
cross country cos, comparison
sponsored by the United States
Auto Club A family of four
traveled from Los Angeles to
Indianapolis in a 1977 six-
cylinder automobile staying in
motels and eating out
In Indianapolis, they picked
up a Star flyer camper made by
Starcraf, R V On the return
trip west, they stayed in camp
grounds and cooked in the
great outdoors
The results? The cos, o f
cooking (heir own meals and
staying in campsites was less
than half the motel/restaurant
costs They also found tha,
towing the camper barely in
creased their car’s gas con-
sump, wn The additional gas
cos, 1.3 cents per mile, only
$3 2 .3 4 over 2,487 m iles
driven
The kind o f camper you
wan, depends on your fam ily’s
size, resources and your car’s
towing ability. If you are a
firs,-time camper, it’s best to
look for a model made by an
established camper company.
You'll be able to ge, experi
enced advice and good service
wherever you travel.
