THE SABBATH
The deep significance
of the Sabbath in the
plan of redemption.
Sabbath keeping is an act of LOVE and
not a LEGAL duty John 14 21 23 John
15 10 Rev 22 14. The ordinances of
C hrist hove a d ouble significance Baptism, fo r instance, means the
death of our old man — of our past life W ith regard to our fu tu re life,
it means the b irth of a new man and the b e ginning of a new life . The
Lord's Supper points back to the cross of C hrist and fo rw a rd to the se
cond com ing of our Lord Jesus.
The firs t m a rria g e ce le b ra tio n m the G arden of Eden m eant the union
of husband and w ife but it was also a prophecy (Gen 2:24) w hich
re fe rre d to Jesus, w ho le ft the Father and becam e man, th a t by his life
and death He may redeem fo r H im self a w ife , His Church, Eph. 5 31,
32.
In the same m anner the Sabbath has a d ouble significance First, it
means s p iritu a l and bodily rest. Second, the Sabbath has a prophetic
m eaning w hich points to the NEW EARTH, w h o re there w ill be a union
w ith the T rinity e te rn a l rest and ha rm o n y! Jesus, the C reator, knew
b e fore cre a tio n concerning m a n s fa ll of the g re a t apostasy of
m ankind, the destru ctio n of this e arth and the creation of a new earth
w here the Sabbath rest w ill be respected. This is the plan, this is the
goal to w a rd w hich the creation hastens. Heb 4 9 I I ; Isa 26 2 4: Isa.
