regarding Individual Accounts, or IRAs. A n d it's one o f
the most im portant tax break-, to come along vet.
Exactly w hat is an IRA?
I t ’s a savings plan for retirement. But unlike most savings
accounts, you are allowed to deduct all contributions and
the interest earned, up u n til you retire.
W h a t’s the difference between the old
and new IRA?
First, tlx- old IR A was onlv available to people who were
not participating in another qualified retirement plan. If
you had a Keogh Plan or were part of another pension
plan, you could rxu participate.
Now, any working person, regardless of whether or n«x
the\ have a Keogh plan or anv other pension plan, is
eligible for an IRA.
Second, the- deductible con tribu tion lim its have hern
raised Previously, the maximum annual con tribu tion was
only 5 lx V or |S% of vour gross annual income,
whichever was less.
