SANCTIFICATION" (imparted righteousness
«
of Christ)
What does it mean?
S a nctification m eans th a t Jesus C hrist lives
in the b e lie ve r th ro u g h the Holy S pirit and
im p a rts to him His righteousness. His ow n
life n a tu re and po w e r, o r is p a rt of us. (G al.
2:20)
The p o w e r of G od is in fin ite ly g re a te r than the p o w e r of sin. (Rom.
5:20,21: Rom. 1:16,17; Rom. 8 1-4.) The Holy S pirit tra n sfo rm s the n a tu re of
b e lie v e r in to the likeness of C hrist. (2 Cor. 3:18; Phi. 2:13.) The b e lie ve r dies
DAILY to sin. (1 Cor. 15.31.) The b e lie v e r patakes of the life of C hrist d a ily.
(John 6:55,56.63.) The fact th a t the b e lie v e r was ju s tifie d and has fa ith in
C hrist does not g ive him an excuse to co n tin u e liv in g in kn o w n sin. (Rom.
6 :1 ,2 ; James 2 :20,24) Can a ju s tifie d and sa n ctifie d man fa ll again in to sin?
The a n sw e r is YES. It is due to the cunning te m p ta tio n s o f Satan and the
w eakness o f the flesh. There are w illfu l, p re m e d ita te d transgressions.
(Heb. 10:26) There are also sins done in ignorance o r carelessness. (1 John
1.8:1, Tim. 1:15.) Through carelessness he can fa ll a w a y fro m C hrist. The
u n converted man loves sin and self, w h ile the re g e n e ra te d m an hates his
sin fu l n a tu re and shuns e vil. W hen the b e lie ve r fa lls in to sin, he confesses
his sin to th e Lord in deep repentance. (1 John 1:9) The ce n te r o f his life is
JESUS CHRIST, not his ego. S a n ctifica tio n is the w o rk of a life tim e .
