Board.
The distribution of state
Common School Fund earn
ings to Oregon public schools
for the year ending June 30,
1981, totals $10 4 million, an
increase of more than $2
million from the amount
distributed in 1980
The board and Division of
State Lands manage the $100
m illio n Common School
Trust Fund and other fund
assets, in clu d in g state-
owned grazing, timber, and
o ff shore lands, coastal
estuarine tidelands and
submerged and submersible
lands of Oregon’s navigable
waterways.
Proceeds from use of the
lands and from other divi
sion activities, less division
expenses, are placed in the
fund's principal Interest
earned from the trust is paid
annually to treasurers in
each of Oregon’s 36 counties,
on the basis of school age
population.
The current distribution
totals almost $16 for each of
Clackamas County’s 64,980
public school students
Speaking for the Land
Board, Gov. Vic Atiyeh,
board chairman, said it was
“ pleased to see the fund's
continued growth and its
constant contribution to
Oregon's school systems
“ As pressure increases to
reduce state support to
schools, we m ust look
toward the Common School

Olaf Michael Oja, 78, of
Portland were held Satur
day. He died July 29 at a
Clackamas hospital.
Born March 3, 1913, in
Finland, he grew up in Min
nesota He married Violet I.
Hulden in Minnesota on July
23, 1938 He was employed in
logging in Minnesota and at
a tool and die factory in
Detroit.
Mr. Oja moved to Oregon
in 1945 where he owned and
operated Oja’s Grocery. In
1948 he started Olaf M. Oja
Lumber Co. in Sandy which
he owned and operated for 30
years He retired in 1978
He is survived by his wife,
Violet of Portland, a son,

daughters, Kathy Janz of
Oregon City and Nancy
Hann of Silverton, a brother,
Edwin of St. Claire Shores,
M ic h .; a s is te r, H e lvi
Kangas of Hibbing, Minn.,
and a grandson
Private interment was at
Lincoln Memorial Park in

tary School, died in Gresham
July 28 She was 76
She was born Harriette
Ann Rucker in Keytesville,
Mo., on Aug 12, 1904. She
was raised and educated in
Missouri.
She married Lee Ellis in
Arkansas on Nov 29, 1929
He died in 1968

N D., on Nov. 20, 1913. He
died in a Portland hospital
July 31. He was 67.

Mr Redmon worked most

a custodian and bus driver.
He is survived by his wife.
