The Sandy C o u n try
Market, featuring crafts and
fresh local produce, w ill
have its grand opening
Saturday. May 30
Country markets are spr
inging up across the nation
as an alternative to high
priced produce which is ship
ped in from points around
the country It has been
documented in government
studies that consumers pay
less while growers receive
more money for their pro
duce, according to local
sponsors
Area g arde ne rs and
farmers will now have this
opportunity, they say
Under the umbrella of the
Sandy Community School, a
group of local growers,
crafts people and consumers
have met since January to
shape their wishes for a
country market into con
crete plans
The ability to make the an
nouncement of the start up
attests to the determination
of area residents who have
had this dream for several
years
An informal tailgate-type
market has always seemed
the logical way to turn ex
cess produce into extra cash.
they say
The group wants to pre
sent high-quality produce
and crafts at reasonable
prices to area consumers
