Free lunch meal policy announced
Sandy Elem entary D istrict
last week announced its
policy for free and reduced
price meals and free m ilk for
children unable to pay fu ll
price The aid comes under
the National School Lunch,
School Rreakfast and Special
M ilk Programs
School lunch prices w ill
rise 10 cents this year, ac­
cording to Superintendent
Clark Lund lamches for
children in grades 1-6 w ill
pay 60 cents per meal and
students in grades 7-6 w ill
pay 70 cents
The cost of the reduced
price meals w ill also rise
from 10 cents to 20 cents.
M ilk prices w ill remain 5
cents.
Local school have adopted
a fam ily size income criteria
for determining e lig ib ility,

whose income is at or below
the levels shown are eligible
for free meals, reduced price
meals and-or free m ilk. In
a d d itio n ,
fa m ilie s
not
meeting these criteria but
with other unusual expenses,
due to high medical ex­
penses, shelter costs in ex­
cess of 30 percent of income,
special education expenses
due to the mental or physical
condition of a child, and
disaster or casualty losses,
are urged to apply.
A p p lic a tio n fo rm s are
being sent to a ll homes in a
letter to parents. Additional
copies are available at the
school office.
In certain cases foster
children are also eligible for
these benefits. I f families
have foster children living
with them and wish to apply
for such meals and m ilk for
them, they should contact the
school
Under the provisions of the
p o licy, the lo ca l school
principals w ill review ap­
p lic a tio n s and d e term ine
e lig ib ility. If a parent is
dissatisfied with the ruling of
the principal, he may discuss
the decision
w ith
the
determining official on an
inform al basis.
I f a parent wishes to make
a form al appeal, he may
make a request either orally
or in w riting to the district
superintendent, who w ill act
as hearing official, at 39065

for the Sandy Community
Players, he chose “ Ten L ittle
Indians.”
“ I t ’s great,” Fox said.
“ I ’ve always been intrigued
with this particular play
since it’s beginning.”

Potter.
The seven-day trip w ill
leave Sandy Sept. 22 and
return Sept. 28. At Reno, the
visitors w ill be able to spend
the day at their leisure or
take a side trip to either Lake
Tahoe or V irginia City, at an
e xtra $10 charge. T h a t
evening w ill be spent at a
Reno floor show.
The excursion w ill move on
to San Francisco the third
day w ith a full-day tour of the
city planned for the fourth
day of the trip. The following
day, a trip to Monterey and
Carmel are planned.
The sixth day, participants
w ill begin the return trip with
a tour of California wine
country and a visit at one of
the local wineries. The trip
w ill stop fo r the night in
Eureka, Calif, on the Pacific
Coast, in the heart of the
Redwood Forests.
