Eastport's annual em
ployee costume contest,
held July 17th as the
mall opened that Thurs
day morning, was an
other headache for the
judges as employees
tried to outdo each other
with some very creative
and humorous get-ups.

legged bug outfit, re
plete with shiny green
face. Ida Hamill of J.K.
Gill's, looking like an
Old West dance hall
beauty, tied for third
judging was done by
someone connected with
Penney’s. Not so. The
judges were; Ruth Luk-
san, manager of Equit
able Savings, De Wayne
Pearson of the King's
Table, also manager,
and Jim Doyle, owner of
Eastport Florals and
Tropicals.
The quality of cos-
tumery in this year’s
contest was extremely
high, and while con
gratulations go to the
winner, congratulations
are also in order for the
also rans, who helped
wake up a few shoppers
with their zany outfits.

employees took part in
the activities which cul
minated in the judging
on the main mall by Pay
'n Save. Shirley Robbins
of Penney’s walked away
with the first place
money, of $75, disguis
ed as Miss Piggy, from
the TV show, the
Muppets. She had gone
so far as to imitate Miss
Piggy’s characteristic
gait and mannerisms,
sparking many a chuckle
amongst contestants
and observers alike.
Ron Bowden of Pen
ney's took second, $50,
with Delaine Coombs of
Penney’s as the wash-
lady, ala Carol Burnett.
Both won $25 each.
From the lineup of
winners one might get
the impression that the
