and Oxbow P a rk is dangerous, said D iecko. and
boaters who a re im p ro p e rly equipped fre q u e n tly fin d
them selves sw im m in g " A lot of people put in the riv e r
in canoes and they e ith e r lose th e ir canoes or s p lit up
and we have to do a ir rescues
W hat people do n 't know can h u rt them, and D iecko
added people who d o n 't have experience ra ftin g or
don't know the r iv e r a re the ones who get into troub le
R ive r T ra ils of T ro u td a le ren ts heavy-duty rafts, and
ow ner M a ry E dgley said none of her pro p e rly -equipped
renters has been in vo lve d in an accident. "W e 'v e had
people who w e re n 't w e a rin g th e ir life jackets and were
throw n in. but oth erw ise we ha ven 't had any
problem s "
R ive r T ra ils ra fts have six a ir cham bers, so if the
ra ft gets punctures, it w o n 't sin k In n e r tubes and thin-
skinned ra fts are dangerous in w h ite w ater, said
Edgley.
" I f you a re ru n n in g rap id s, you should be on
som ething tha t is durable I f y o u 're not. that s when
accidents happ en ." said E dgley
.And when people are tossed out of th e ir boats, they
shouldn't try to rescue the boat — they should save
them selves fir s t, Edgley added The cold w a te r can
be the rea l d a n g e r."
In the stre tch between Dodge and Oxbow, there are
