A pril S. 1 9 7* ( * • < • » Organ transplants transmit infection Recipients of organ transplants are more vulnerable to infection, and in some cases the organs they receive may contain organisms that cause in fection This happened recently in two heart transplant patients w hose cases are discussed in the January issue of Annals of Internal Medicine by Frank W Ryning. M D and colleagues at the Stanford University Medical Center In both cases, the culprit uas an organism known as toxoplasma Humans usually become infected by this parasite by eating con laminated material, such as undercooked meat. After discussing the two cases. Drs Ryning, Rima McLeod. John C.
