The gleam of brass, the flow
of wind, and — music!
H*s as much a part of autumn as Halloween and migrating geese.
Sandy High School presented its annual fall instrumental concert
Monday night under the direction of band teacher Steve Christianson.
The kids arrived early in their tuxedos and long dresses, and signs
of nervousness abounded.
Then the music started. The symphonic band led off, followed
by the junior stage band and the wind and percussion ensemble. I he
jitters didn’t keep anyone from performing well, and it
was hard to remember the groups had been in existence for
only six weeks.
The saxophone quartet, freshman band and jazz ensemble
also performed. The bit of the evening may have been
Sousa’s march “Stars and Stripes Forever”, with an original
and impressive rendition given by the wind and percussion ensemble.
