The Theater in Sandy is showing the movie ‘Gospel
Road” through Saturday of this week The film was
made in the Middle East by Johnny Cash to depict the
life of Christ in its historical setting Cash’s wife. June
Carter, plays the role of Mary Magdalene The two-
hour movie will begin showing at 7 p.m. A special
Sunday matinee will begin at 2 p m.
Buhler named trustee
Verne Buhler, principal of Firwood Grade School in the
Sandy Elementary School District, has been named
to the board of trustees of Judson Baptist College in
Portland
Dr. C. Neal Davis, president of the college, said Buhler
was appointed to serve until February 1981.
The Sandy resident previously served on the Academic
Affairs Committee of the college.
Judson Baptist College is a two-year Christian liberal
arts college which offers programs leading to the
Associate of Arts and Associate ot Science degrees
The curriculum is designed to provide lower division
requirements for the student who plans to transfer to
another institution for the baccalaureate degree and to
provide a broad exposure to the arts and sciences for
students who do not wish to continue their formal
education at another institution.
Priscilla and Michael Paulin
Jester and Paulin wed
Priscilla Jester carried an heirloom handkerchief at her
June 3 wedding to Michael Paulin in the Sandy Com­
munity Presbyterian Church.
The heirloom had been carried by the bride s mother
and grandmother at their weddings.
Paulin presented his bride with her grandmother's 70-
year-old wedding band in the ceremony
The bride s dress was designed and made by her mother
of off-white cotton with eyelet-embroidered border She
wore silk flowers ,n her hair.
The bride’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Jester of
Sandy. The groom is the son of Mrs Connie Paulin of
Whittier. Calif Andrew Paulin of Fullerton. Calif, served
as usher
Music for the ceremony was provided by violinist Susan
Hammer. She was accompanied by her mother. Mrs.
Clifford Vorm. The couple’s candles were lit by their
mothers and were later used to light the wedding candle.
Altar candles were lit by Dennis and Corinne Pearson of
Eugene.
A reception in the church social hall followed the
ceremony.
The couple will make their home in Portland.

Arlene Hansen and Jeffrey Blakely wrote the vows for
their wedding Aug 19 in the Trinity Lutheran Church in
Gresham The attire of the bridal party and the decor of
the church followed a theme of pastel blues and greens.
The cerem ony was perform ed by Rev. Dan
Hallgrimson.
The bride’s honor attendant was Peggy Steele of Por­
tland Bridesmaids were Debbie Silbernagel, the bride’s
sister, and Terri Newlun from California. The bride’s
attendants carried white wicker baskets of green and
white flowers.
Steve Blakely of Portland served as best man for his
brother’s wedding Ushers were Chris Hanson, the bride’s
brother, and Greg Blakely, brother of the groom
The bride’s parents are Mr and Mrs. Eugene Hansen of
Sandy. The groom's father is George A. Blakely of Boring.
His mother is Mrs. Judith Klein of Portland.
The groom presented his bride with a gold and diamond
cross on the wedding day. A reception followed the
ceremony in the church The couple is living in Portland.
Russ and Nancy Ridgeway of Sandy had their first
child, a baby boy, on Aug. 25. Named Jeffrey Michael, he
weighed 8 pounds. 4 ounces.
The baby’s grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Andy
Ridgeway of Sandy and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Deathridge
of Boring. His great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Jerry
Hale of Sandy and Mrs. and Mrs. Orlando Draheim of
Eureka, Calif.
The child also has a great-great-grandmother, Mrs.
Lucy Cottingham, who lives in Portland.

Noted concert pianist Istvan Nadas will perform in
recital at the University of Portland Sept. 22 at 8 p.m.
in the Buckley Cednter Auditorium, 5000 N. Willamette
Blvd. in Portland.
Nadas, who recently completed a South American
concert tour for the U.S. State Department, will
present a varied program, including works of Bach,
Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt and Bela Bartók, with whom
he studied piano in Europe.
He is well known for his performances of
Beethoven’s sonatas and the complete keyboard works
of Bach, which he will perform at Reed College
beginning in February.
Doreen and Gene Davis
Caba weds Davis
Doreen Caba made the satin and lace gown she wore for
her wedding Aug. 17 to Gene Wayne Davis. A 1978
graduate of Sandy High School, she is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Christian Caba of Boring.
The groom’s mother and stepfather are Mr. and Mrs. A1
Dickson of Woodinville, Wash. His father is Clifton Davis
of Welches. The ceremony was performed by the Rev.
Raymond Alcorn in the Sandy Assembly of God Church.

Cindy Stotts of Sandy was the bride’s honor attendant
Her bridesmaids were Teresa Caba, Linda Detherage,
Debbie Bennett and Beth Lane.
The best man was Scott Davis, brother of the groom.
Ushers were Cecil Caba, Clifton Davis, Dan Brown and
Matt Hartwell. Lorie Bennett and Tony Hale were flower
girl and ring bearer.
Organist for the ceremony was Tim De Rosso. Mona
Alcorn was vocalist, and musical selections were
“ Nadia’s Theme,” “ You Light up My Life” and
“ Evergreen.”
Candle lighters were the bride’s brother, Gary Caba,
the groom’s brother, Dan Dickson, and Jana and Charla
Alcorn. Mona Alcorn loaned the bride a locket which she
wore for the wedding.
The couple will live in San Diego where the groom is
serving in the Marine Corps.
Blue and yellow highlighted the wedding ceremony of
Terry Lynn Schmidt and Corby Joseph Chappell on Aug.
5. The wedding was performed by the Rev. Paul Gross at
the Hoodland Lutheran Church in Wemme.
The bride carried a bouquet of daisies and yellow
rosebuds with baby’s breath and yellow ribbon stream ers

breath with yellow ribbons were arranged by the bride
and her mother.
The bride made her wedding gown of white cotton eyelet
and attached a fingertip veil to her mother’s seed pearl
wedding cap. Each bridesmaid fashioned her dress of blue
and yellow floral cotton.
Bridesmaids were Cheryl Garrison of Milwaukie,
Nancy Hopfer of Tillamook, Cecilia Stiles of Dallas, Ore.
and Vickie Klein of Salem. Matron of honor was Theresa
Zakitof Clackamas.
Carl Chappell of Corvallis, brother of the groom, was
best man. Ushers were Tim Walters and Bob Gell of
Corvallis, Jim Rankin of Helix, Ore., and Dave Schmnidt
of Sandy, brother of the bride The groom’s attendants
wore blue tuxedoes
The bride’s parents are Mr and Mrs Robert Schmidt of
Sandy. The groom is the son of Mr and Mrs. Berkley
Chappell of Corvallis The couple will be living in
Independence, Ore.
Marine Corps recruit
Marine Private John A. Cheevers Jr., son of Emily L.
and John A. Cheevers Sr. of 19625 SE 395th Ave. in Sandy,
has completed recruit training at the Marine Corps
Recruit Depot, San Diego.
A 1978 graduate of Sandy Union High School, he joined
the Marine Corps in May 1978

Willamette Center’s New Theater opens on Friday
evening, Sept. 22, at 8:30 p.m., with the Mark Allen
Players’ production of Arthur Miller’s Pulitzer prize
winning play “ Death of a Salesman” , directed by Ben
Padrow and featuring Mark Allen as Willy Loman. The
show runs Friday and Saturday evenings through Oct.

Timberline Lodge is bolding its ninth annual “ Swiss
Weekend” Sept 23-24 Throughout the weekend, the
music, food and festivities will follow a Swiss theme.
Saturday evenings a buffet dinner and dance is
scheduled, with music from the Alps supplied by the
Werner Blaser Swiss Kappwlle.
Dancing will begin at 8:30 p.m. in the lodge’s rustic
lobby. Other entertainers will be singers and yodelers

Les Lusk is appearing Friday and Saturday from 9
p m -2 a m. at the Zigzag Inn. He performs what
proprietor Collette Bartruff calls “uptown western”
with his four-piece band and his daughter Leslie as

are needed to operate the gift
shop. If you are interested in

A tour of the Blitz Brewery
is planned for Sept. 27 from 1-
3:30 p.m. Following the tour,
guests will be treated to
refreshments in the Blitz
Hospitality Room There are
