Oh my!
Lions and tigers and bears
There’s no better place for a kid to
spend an afternoon than at the xoo.
At least that’s what a busload of kids
from the Mt. Hood Community College
Community School thought after a trip
to the Washington Park Zoo in Portland
last Friday.
The volunteer chaperones had their
hands full. After all, who wants to be
part of an orderly group when there’s
tigers, elephants and bears just around
the corner? Somehow, the chaperones
managed, and they probably had just
as much fun as the kids.
The trip capped the first week of
activities for the school’s Summer Fun
Program despite the expected con
fusion. “We didn’t lose a kid,” ac
cording to Community School coor
dinator Judy Sheppard.
The timing was good for the Sandy
group which included special education
kids from the Sandy area. Not only did
the weather clear for the trip, but
Friday was the last day before the
Washington Park Zoo raised its prices.
The trip home was highlighted by the
singing of several songs, according to
Sheppard.
And the chaperones?
“They slept.”
