through a human coun

bygone days. The class left
wondering about “ Truthie,”
the first skunk off Mother
Nature’s assembly line that
was allowed to stink.
The class outing consisted
of the following students:
Aaron Wilson, Telaina Watts,

Scarborough from Gearhart.
The above rep ort was
given to me by Bob
Freeman. Bob is a fantastic
story teller and the children
were delighted with Olmar
the Stump. Bob had Olmar
a ll rigged w ith a tape
recorder so it seemed the
stump was telling the stories
and the children were
fascinated.
I don’t wish to make
anyone that stayed on this
side of the mountain envious,
but the weather on the other
side was bea utifu l a ll
weekend. There was a crowd
of 29 people all at one time in
our 12 by 20 foot living room.
Clyde, Tulia and Krissy
Phelps, Jim and Lorraine
Lyne from Corvallis, our son
and daughter and assorted
other people were at our
place, 13 in all, and the others
were drop-ins.
There were a couple of
caualties though Son George
piled a big bike he was riding
into a pile of large rocks and
had to have six stitches in his
elbow It didn’t do the in
cision on his neck much good.
Also, one of the gals broke
her thumb, so I was kept
busy making hospital runs.

Our deepest sym pathy
goes out to the fam ily of Bill
Spencer. B ill was killed in an
autom obile accident last
week.
I was handed a note that
I attorney Bud Johns, a for-
1 mer resident of this area was
running for justice of the
peace in Florence. Bud
moved back to Florence
after his wife died, and we
lost track of his whereabouts.
Now all I have to do is find
out who won the election.
Three were running.
The first grade pupils, 26
strong and charges of
teacher Gerry Owens and
aide Freda Tyler, left Cot
trell school May 19 for the
day accompanied by parents
for a trip to Mt. Hood and
further points.
The day’s outing had been
postponed a week because of
continual inclement weather.
While the sun was out with
temperatures in the low 70’s,
conditions at T im b e rlin e
were not cooperative. Wind
gusts hovered at 50 mph,

The class retraced its route
down the mountain earlier
than planned. Receiving
prior permission, the group
was allowed to park its bus
behind Ted’s Brightwood
Store and the post office.
Here
the
entourage
reassembled and hiked the
hill trail to the Bob Freeman
residence. A bonfire awaited
the group along with hot
dogs, buns, wiener sticks,
peanut butter celery stalks,
graham
crackers
and
lemonade.
A Everyone fired up his or
