"T e rri's going to have a show

Luella Severs, owner of the
Porthole Art Studio in Gresham
where T erri works "But she
sells them faster than we can
get them up."
T e rri is an environmentalist

pastels
She preserves
wildlife in its natural state - on
paper.
Observing wildlife is no easy
task.
"W e see a lot of deer where
we live," the Sandy resident
acknow ledged. " A woman
nearby has a creek and she’s
seen bear come to drink We
have beaver too I've seen their
dams, but never the beaver
themselves
"Mostly. 1 see farm animals
We have a lot of horses close by

She likes live models, so her
prim ary subject is horses She
also sketches from pictures

Lying a b o u t ra in ke e p s guests a w a y
snorts "W ind is wind."
She says once a Californian has his suspicions con
firm ed about bad weather in Oregon he never asks any
more questions He just goes on to brag about how long his
a ir conditioner has been running
" I usually top that by complaining about the July bill for
furnace fuel," Gladys chortled.
Californians say the drought is so bad they’re having
trouble filling their swimming pools. We talk of rain
puddles in the driveway deep enough to drown the
paperboy. They say their tomatoes aren't doing well in the
hot weather We claim we've lived in Oregon all our lives
and never seen a red one
The way Gladys figures It. there's a noble purpose in
lying about Oregon's weather She says it prevents
Californians from moving here A fib about a sleet storm
in July is a public service
But I know why I tell Californians the spare bedroom is
flooded with rain water. Who wants out-of-town house
guests when the sun is shining**

We Want Your Car (Or Truck)
That's right—We're loaded with shiny new 7 7 Chevrolet cars and truck»
because we overstocked, purposely to compete in the National Chevrolet
Sales contest which ended July 10. We did win— but we still have many, too
many new cars and trucks that we honestly must sell— like quickly.
However, our used car ond truck inventory is way too low. So— it's simple
arithmetic that we will now ollow you more in trode (especially for super
clean cars ond trucks) and at the some time keep the price on a new Chev to
absolute minimum.
Considering that the 7 8 Chev trucks will not chonge and only the Monte
Carlo ond Malibu cars will chonge that a 7 7 Chev is a very wise choice.
Remembering that there will be at least a 6% price increase on new 78s
when they show in early October, this will omount to os much as MOO addi
tional.
Because our model year close-out prices are in effect— that will make a 7 7
model a super wise choice.
We have many more reasons that we would like to explain to you that now
just may be the best time ever to stop and shop at Carlson Chevrolet— Come
try us on for price I

Hapless homemaker
Gladys and 1, both diehard Oregonians, have a tough
time keeping the rust on our images when the sun shines
Our friends and relatives in California, who really
believe our toes are webbed, just don't like to be told the
weather la nice in Oregon We think they’re trying to
justify their existence in their own state.
For their benefit. Gladys and I brainstorm Oregon
storms
M y mother-in-law. who thinks the North Pole is only
half a block from our house, always phones to ask. "How's
the weather way up there?"
She’d be crushed if 1 didn't tell her it had rained. (It did
rain, a week or so ago—just enough to green the law n.)
" I was just outside scraping the moss off the roof of the
ca r," I add for emphasis, juggling the phone with hands
slick from suntan oil
If Gladys can't work up a fib about a rainstorm she'll
tell a caller from south of the border that the wind Is
blowing
"So what if it's just a zephyr in the treetops," Gladys
