Senior citizens organize group in Hoodland area

Also found one of my moth
e r’s diaries but she was more
interested In family goings o n ,.
mostly of all the times we
seemed to move--which was
often every year
-•
Wonder if moving could be a
hereditary thing, as my son and
daughter-in-law seem to move
almost as often
However, all our family
moves ended up some time
during the year at the moun
tain, for a year or more stay.
We were always here in the
summer. Can't think of one we
missed before we ended up here
permanently, Never a dull
moment.
The senior citizens had an
excellent turnout at their last
meeting with 46 present.
They had scheduled that
meeting to get a name for their
group, but many of their active
members were out of town.
That was postponed until the
next meeting Tuesday, May 10.
There will also be election of
officers at the May meeting.
The nominating committee
consists o f : Harold Burns. Sally
Hurlburt, Louise O'Dea
Everyone had an excellent
time at the last meeting and are
looking forward to more at
their May meeting.

A week ago Tuesday morning
we saw our first hummingbird.
So had to go dig out the feeder,
make the filling for it and get it
out on its hangar.
Now 1 have two of the or-
neriest birds we have ever had.
It is more fun to watch them,
and I keep wondering how they
can dive at each other like they
do and not Impail themselves
on the bill They are quick.
For a few days now they have
probably wondered why they
came back so early to the hail,
cold wind, rain and what have
you Hopefully it will Improve
some for them Doesn't pay to
ask for too much improvement
Found an old diary of the
weather that my father used to
keep, and on April 18, 1947, it
was cloudy, no rain after early
a m . and 54 degrees
April 19, 1947, rain p.m. 54
degrees
April 20, 1947, partly cloudy,
no rain 55 degrees, while on
April 20, 1948, it was bright and
clear and the cherry trees were
starting to bloom, and 62
degrees
It ’s fun to read what went on
In 1947 and 1948 He seems to
have kept it daily for both
If you are able to attend the
meeting is at the Lions Club,
with a potluck luncheon With
all the excellent cooks we have
up here, is always a delicious
meal Everyone in the senior
citizen classification is very
welcome.

Dorothy and Louis Phelps
hosted a delightful dinner and
evening for my one and only’s
birthday. Although his birthday
fell on Monday, we picked
Saturday as a better day for
celebration.
Those attending were Naomi
Blaisdell, Clyde and Tulia
Phelps, and Pat Kasch (Rudy
was in Pendleton for a bowling
tournament so could not at
tend.)
We had a wonderful evening,
and all of us kept saying, why
do we have to have a birthday
to have a get-together? Who
needs an excuse’ Thank you
Dorothy and Louis.

Among
the
possible
management steps being
considered by the Wildlife
Department are:
—Restriction of hunters to
use of a single weapon of their
choice (rifle, muzzle loading
rifle or bow and arrow) for deer
and elk hunting.
—R estricting hunters to
hunting bucks or does, but not
both in any one season.
— Restricting mule deer and
black tail deer tag holders to
controlled hunts of their
respective tags only.
Control elk hunting through
refuges, branch antler rules, a
tag sale cut-off date and
multiple seasons with hunters
restricted to one choice.
The
commission
seeks
written input as well as verbal.
Interested persons are invited
to write the Department of Fish

Game season
topic of hearing
Big game hunting will be the
topic at an April 30 hearing
when the Oregon Fish and
Wildlife Commission reviews
conditions of the state's big
game population and makes
recommendations for the 1977
hunting season
The meeting will be at the
Bonneville Power Ackninistra
lion Auditorium. 1002 NE Holl
aday in Portland beginning at
9a.m .
The commission will be faced
with the task of formulating
regulations which strike some
kind of balance between what is
desired
by
the
hunting
population and what is possible
when biological and social
considerations are taken into
account.
Factors considered include
animal population trends, herd
age and sex composition,
winter range condition, con
flicts with agriculture and the
desires of hunters as expressed

meeting there will be seven
