Ed Lindquist Legislators gearing up for 1977 session Ry Rep Ed Lindquist D - Milwaukie House Majority Leader Now that Oregon voters have made their legislative choices, those of us who were given the p riv ile g e of serving our districts are gearing up rapidly fix- the 1977 session In the coming months, I hope to keep Clackamas County residents informed of current le g is la tiv e d e v e lo p m e n ts In addition, a Committee on Personnel has been appointed. This committee will supervise and organize the hiring and training of new legislative personnel Two orientation sessions, one in December for new members, and one in January for all leg isla to rs, have been scheduled to familiarize the representatives and senators with budget proposals, major issues and leg isla tive organization. Our Number One job between now and January w ill be to gather inform a tion and establish priorities for pressing legislative issues The leader ship of both Houses is already hard at work on this task It is cle a r that a reasonable reliable and equitable answer to the crises in property taxation and school finance w ill be the major topic of con sideration early in the session. Workmen’s Compensation is another subject of continuing the C apitol B uilding is bustling with activity It is my great pleasure to have been elected by my Democratic colleagues for a second term as House Majority Leader I w ill also be Chairman of the Rules Committee, which formulates the rules under which the House w ill operate. A Facilities Committee has been named and charged with a llo catin g physical space among the membership of the House through this column, letters and com m unity meetings Whenever you read about an issue that you'd like to know more about, I hope you won’t hesitate to get in touch with me Getting ready for our Jan. 10 opening day is hard work In Salem, the 1001 details involved with preparing for a smooth session are already being seen to— right down to a “ face scrubbing” of the famous murals inn the rotunda— and Holiday dance planned for seniors The Holiday Dance for senior adults in Clackamas County is set for Monday, Dec 13. at 8 p m at Clackamas Community College in the Community Center Mall. There is no charge for the festivities featuring a dance band and entertainment All senior singles, couples or groups are invited to enjoy the evening, sponsored by the RSVP (R e tire d Senior Volunteer Program) Advisory C o u n cil. Refreshm ents w ill be available, and the evening will be dotted with surprises If transportation is needed by anyone wishing to attend, or to suggest any other activities for the evening, call the RSVP office at Clackamas Com munity College, 656-2631, Ext. 317. This training and testing is necessary to comply with regulations of the Environ mental Protec turn Agency The regulations require that per sons who use restricted use pesticides after October 1977. must be certified through a training program, according to Clackam as County Agent < I.,S ton Wills For example, lesson one will deal with laws, regulations, labels and labeling of pesticides and die penalties for violation of these pesticide laws.
