The Sandy River basin, one of

includes the waters of the
Salmon. Zigzag and Bull Run
rivers in addition to all creeks
and other waterways fram ing
into the Sandy or the Columbia
between Troutdale and Bon-
ne^ilie
In addition to identifying
wastes from G o vern m en t
Camp M t Hood Golf Club
Terrace. Bowman s Mt. Hood
Resort. Troutdale. Reynolds
Metals and the Bonnev ille and
Sandy River fish hatchenes.
the plan studies the impact on
the n v e r of septic tanks,
recreational use an durban
agricultural runoff
i Sewage effluent from the
City of Sandy treatment plant
goes into a tributary of the
Clackamas and is considered
part of the W illam ette River
Basin t
" C u rr e n tly ,” the rep o rt
states "about 3.300 people (in
the Sandy R iver basin) are
served by municipal treatment
facilities About 13.300 persons
or 00 per cent of the population,
are served by septic tanks and
frainfieids "
Waterways in the Sandy
R iver basin should be classified
as "w ater quality limiting
according to the DEQ which
indicates that secondary sewer
treatment facilities have not
resulted in a quality of water
winch meets Environmental
Protection Agency standards
Most water quality problems
in the Sandy crop up during
periods of low summer flow
when river water warms and
muddies from melting glaciers
The document sets water
standarfr regarding pH range
coliform orgarasms dissolved
ch em ical
substances and
turbidity
Design standards for new or
modified sewage treatment
plants are planned as part of
the program
A dilution requirement may
eventually lead Troutdale to
pipe treated sewage to the
Columbia River. Also men
boned is the possibility of
phasing out smaller sewage
treatment plants in the Mt.
Hood Corridor, replacing them
with a regional facility
Management plans require
monthly testing of n ver water
every three years to determine
water quality

available for studv at Troutdale*
